Just a reminder to everyone on shared computers that you should always delete cookies set by this board and clear out your internet history after logging off.

To delete cookies, log out and go to the bottom of the forum and click "delete cookies set by this forum"

To clear internet history (in Internet Explorer), go to

tools
Internet options
Under temporary internet files - delete files
Under history - Delete

It's also wise not to use the "auto complete" feature. If you find that when you go to log in and your uder name appears after you begin typing, chances are the auto complete is on.

http://www.justbajan...s/auto_comp_ie/

That link will walk you through clearing it out.

Any questions, please holler and someone will be able yo help you out!

Love

Sheila and Jillie

This information is important for anyone who doesn't want their nearest and dearest to know that they post here. Sheila, and I and the mods do our utmost to keep an eye out for non-genuine members, but we are not infallible. Far better that it is kept private to begin with.

The internet is a public space, and even though we feel safe here, taking basic security precautions like these is wise.

Thanks for putting this post together Sheila! :D

love Jillie xxxxx

I think that I may have caused this to be posted.

For those of you who don't know, My Dh has been lurking here under different names.

I am not sure that his motives are honorable.

Sheila, jillie, and the mods have been watching my back so to speak.
And I have been around less often.

So thank you Sheila and jillie for the great advice here...and may I add my own.

You may not really know who is on the other side of the computer screen.
My DH used male, female, and non-gender names here.
He never actually posted, so no harm was really done other than worrying me and the mods....
but never give any personal information out. If it doesn't feel right...trust yourself...and you can always contact the mods if a post seems off the mark. They have a good handle on what is going on on the boards and will check things out.

thanks
-pita

for those of you with Mac's (like myself) and use safari, there is a setting called "private browsing". it doesn't add anything to history and once you empty your cache (cookies) it will keep it empty until you shut the setting off.

hope this was helpful!

Sadly no....... The password is encrypted within the cookie, so when the cookie goes, the password goes too.

I'm a security freak myself, I love XP, I always let myself on as the Admin and all others are restricted users, that way they'll never see where I've been on :P

I'm a Firefox fan myself currently on Ubuntu (linux) and I have the option of password protecting my passwords. In other words, there is only one master password that I need to remember and the rest get stored.

Right now, I am the only one in the house who uses this computer (my parents are completely computer illiterate with no desire to learn so it's not an issue. But many years ago, my ex wife (before she was an ex) used to follow me around, so I understandthe need for security and anonymous browsing.

Thanks for the great tips. I now keep a printed copy of your lesson in my pocket at work.

I like yours too for home, Control.

If you use Firefox, you can download Xmarks, which saves your passwords, and then you only have to remember one master password.

If you use this, and you are concerned about the security, the best way to make your master password is make sure it is over 8 characters, use lowercase, caps, numbers, and keyboard characters like !@#$% etc.
