Wasn't sure where to post my update, but saw Jillie had put her update in here so thought this is as good a place as any. I am still a work in progress regarding depression/anxiety and OCD recovery. Having been through a fairly intensive period of CBT last year with a brilliant therapist, an ex social worker I have learnt a lot in challenging my thought processes. I don't of course always get it right but as I say it's a work in progress. I don't see any one from the CMHT any more and I am due to be completely discharged from the service soon. Currently I still work as a hospital housekeeper just Sundays - the money is pretty good. I am still studying with the Open University and am currently on my third course 'Challenging Ideas in Mental Health (high five to Jillie too as a fellow student !). Have to say I am getting a bit blase with this course and really not enjoying the experience as much as I used to. I have an exam in June and one more written assignment to do before then. All my results have been pretty good with the 3 courses that I have studied so far, infact my first course I got a distinction. Not sure though whether I will do many more possibly one next year to at least get my Diploma in Health and Social Care. To be honest I am not sure where I am going with my studying, I have no real goal as far as careers go. It's a case of balancing my self esteem/mental health and what is around and what I feel capable of doing. At one point I was keen on Social Work but I really do not know. I definitely do not wish to pursue care work (as in personal care) or nursing. I will just see.

Steve was made redundant from his job at the beginning of April (it was voluntary but was really a case of being backed into a corner so that he really had no choice, all in the name of stream lining staff !). So he is signing on and we are getting help with out rent as a result. He is still waiting to see whether he can get Jobseekers Allowance. We are managing financially just about, although having his redundancy money has helped (which is being declared to the dept of work and pensions !)Fingers crossed a job will come up at some point. He has been well for some time although had a slight change in his mental health diagnosis to Schizo Affective Disorder. Alas his physical health has taken a bashing as he now has Diabetes type 2 and suffers from Torticollis an neurological condition that makes him keep turning his head to one side. He has seen a specialist about it and it has been recommended that he has Botox injections in his neck to paralyse the various bits that cause the problem.

The kids are growing fast. Dan is now 15 and about to take his GCSE exams with a view to staying on another two years to do A Levels and on to do teacher training. Ailisha is now 11 yrs and whilst still battling problems with her shortness makes up for it in being feisty. She has recently (back in March) had an operation on both eyes to correct a squint/lazy eye, which has worked well. In September she starts a new school, all the middle schools are closing in town in line with the rest of the country and so she will be going to the same place as Dan, although the annexe she will be based in will be brand new, purpose built for her year and the year above. It will be separate from the main building so they won't be bothered by the older kids.

Okay I think that's about it.

Lots of love to you all

Jane xxxx
