Avoiding Christmas Time Room

Virtually all of us patients hid in our rooms for the afternmoon.
The only good ting about the holidays is that my daughter and her boyfriend are coming home.

I am not saying we should go back to the 'true meaning' of Christmas, because as somebody who doesn't believe in God I am not even sure what that is. Peace on Earth and Goodwill to All Men - well, that is not just for one time of year. I like to think of it as a Festival of Light in the middle of the darkest period of the year. Time spent with those we love, no work, not too many obligations. Preferably spent snug and warm at home.
Maybe, given that the world is in financial crisis, we should all look at a more sober Christmas this year, with small but meaningful presents for our loved ones. No more buying because we 'have to' but only for those we 'want to'.

I have been celebrating the Solstice for quite a number of years now. The return to longer days seems like a good reason to celebrate - and certainly predates any existing religions. It works great in many ways, not least of which it removes much of the conflicts around who visits whom on christmas itself.
Also, since there are no expectations, you get to make it whatever you want. I even made a sign with the showing the tilt of the earth and the sun with the slogan "The real reason for the Season". When I had an office job, I would put it up beside the christmas stuff and when I had my store, it was on the front of the counter and in the window. No religious stuff for me.

I like it!
I see you are from PEI.....I have been there! I even dressed up as Anne of Green Gables and have a dirt shirt to prove it.
*blushes furiously for being such a tourist*
I also have some nice watercolour prints of lighthouses on the island to remind me of it - it is a beautiful place.

Well, Xmas is fast approaching, it seems to come around sooner each year as I grow older. I always feel the stress to get things done before Xmas, it is becoming all too much.
