to the one who left me

The golden turned leaves danced around you
I danced under the turning head of the green man
You laughed and took my hand
It felt like a warm breeze on a summerís day
We walked on, kicking toadstools under our feet
Laughing as we watched rabbits bob their tails
Was it the gun in your hand or just our presence that made them run away?
The simple things are what makes a good memory
Did you agree? I canít remember.
Sitting under your tree with a cup of tea
You said it always tastes better outside
I had to agree.
I loved the smell of the chainsaw, that musty smell of the first cut log that would burn so nicely to keep winter out.
I gave you the logs and you cut them, filling the wheel barrow up to the brim, we took them to the house and on the way back I had a ride with the dog in my lap.
Did you like winter, I canít remember.
Do you watch me as I sit under your favourite tree and drink the tea that always tastes nicer outside?
I still love that smell of the chainsaw, its like that first summer rain.
It brings back a memory and I smile.
I always remember you on this day; I walk in the golden leaves and kick toadstools under my feet.
Later I will put a gift a blessing under that tree where we laid you to rest.
And remember you as much as I can.
I hope you still remember me.
